David Rain, Choral Composer
Welcome to the Youtube channel of a “late in life” Canadian choral composer!
Professionally, I received English & Law degrees from U.B.C. and an M.A. in Development Studies from the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. For 40 years I worked in the fields of international development and refugee/immigrant support, the last 12 as a fundraiser.
I've been a chorister most of my life, first in Vancouver with the Christ Church Cathedral choir in the 1960s and then with the Vancouver Bach Choir in the 1970s. After 10 years in Tanzania, I settled in Ottawa where I sang with The Stairwell Carollers for 28 years. In 2024 I move to Toronto.
I began composing in my spare time in 2015, have written 35+ songs, with performances across Canada and in Austria, Germany, Sweden and Poland.
Five of my songs have been published by Cypress Choral Music. Sheet music for my other songs can be obtained at MusicSpoke & SheetMusicPlus.
Each year, I donate 50% of my composer income to Canadian charities.
