The UP Symphonic Band is a performing group based at the University of the Philippines College of Music. It emerges from the laboratory large ensemble class of Winds and Percussion Department with its members coming from the UP ROTC Band that offers scholarship for young instrumentalists since the 1960's. It started as a small wind ensemble in 1981 until it was named the UP Philippine Youth Symphonic Band in 1986 with UP College of Music adopting the PYSB from the Philippine National Arts Center in Mt. The name was changed to UP Symphonic Band in 1998 by Prof. Rodney Ambat.
