Elena Mukhina Gymnastics and Music
Elena Vyacheslavovna Mukhina (Russian: Елена Вячеславовна Мухина) (1 Jun 1960 - 22 Dec 2006) was a Soviet gymnast who won the all-around title at the 1978 World Championships in Strasbourg. She was widely considered as the next great gymnastics star until 1979, when she broke a leg and missed several competitions. Her coach rushed her recovery and pressured her to master a dangerous and difficult tumbling move (Thomas salto). She broke her neck two weeks before the opening of the 1980 Summer Olympics, leaving her permanently quadriplegic. She died at age of 46. (Source: Wikipedia)
