Ashoka Pushpakumara has been both a prominent musician and a teacher of music with a career spanning for more than three decades. Winning the National Youth Award for best musician in several years from 1991 to 1998, he has created a number of melodious songs and has contributed to a number of stage dramas as a music composer. He is also well-known as the creator of the school song of Maliyadewa Model School, Kurunegala. During his time period serving as a music teacher in Royal College, Colombo he pioneered in creating the musical extravaganza “SaGa” which led to the creation of many prominent musicians to the music industry of the country
