TPLS CYC NEPAL

Tamu Pye Lhu Sangh (TPLS) was first established in order to preserve, conserve and promote the Tamu (Gurung) heritage culture, religious beliefs and practices.

Tamu Pye Lhu Sangh was established in 1990. “Tamu” means Gurung, and “Pye” refers to the religious scriptures of the Gurungs. Gurung religious priests, known as Pachyu, Khlepree, and Bonpo Lama, recite these scriptures during various religious and social ceremonies. “Lhu” signifies the social traditions and culture guided by these scriptures. Thus, Tamu Pye Lhu Sangh translates to the Gurung Religious and Traditional Organization.

A popular phrase in the Gurung language, “Pye Tan Lhu Tan,” is frequently used by the Gurung community. This phrase means the original Gurung religion, traditions, beliefs, and culture as guided by the Gurung scriptures. The name Tamu Pye Lhu Sangh is derived from this phrase, embodying the essence of preserving and promoting the Gurung religious and cultural heritage
