Shama Foundation

Shama, derived from the Blin word for ‘communal assembly,’ provides a platform for critical engagement, encouraging the examination of sociopolitical and ethical issues within the Eritrean context, both domestically and in the diaspora. It highlights the importance of research ethics alongside the topics it explores.

The Shama Foundation, as part of the Refugee Ethics Network, focuses on fostering understanding in areas such as forced migration, transnationalism, peace, security, development, state violence, and organised crime. By facilitating dialogue and promoting diverse perspectives, it seeks to contribute to impartial and constructive discourse.

The initiative will organise expert interviews, panel discussions, conferences, and seminars, engaging Eritrean academics and professionals while fostering collaboration with non-Eritrean scholars, institutions, and organisations.
