Padma Shri Prahlad Singh Tipaniya is a celebrated Indian folk singer, renowned for his powerful renditions of the 15th-century saint-poet Kabir in the Malwi folk tradition of Madhya Pradesh.

Originally a village schoolteacher, his journey into music began in 1978 with the tambura—a five-string plucked instrument—which led him to the profound world of Kabir’s poetry. Since then, he has emerged as a key figure in reviving India’s centuries-old oral folk traditions.

He has performed at over 45 universities in the United States, including Stanford, Harvard, MIT, as well as in countries like UK, Canada, UAE, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, & beyond—spreading Kabir’s message of love, equality, and inner awakening to global audiences.

He is the founder of the Kabir Smarak Sewa Samiti & also an active member of the ICCR, Sangeet Natak Academy, and many institutions.

His immense contribution to Indian folk music has been recognized with the Padma Shri, one of the nation’s highest civilian honors.
