Centenary Methodist English Church

In 1874, Captain Winckler who came to work for the Nizam’s State Railway, began cottage prayer meetings in Secunderabad; soon people started attending from Bolarum and Chaderghat. In 1875, Rev. William Taylor visited Hyderabad and conducted a series of meetings that greatly encouraged the work of the church. The first Minister to be appointed was Rev. J E Robinson, who later became Bishop of the Methodist Episcopal Church. For some time, worship services were held in a temporary building. Later that year, in November, after a sermon by Rev. C B Ward, it was decided to establish a Church building. Pledges were made by many and Mrs. Anna Walker, generously donated a large plot of land and a sum of Rs. 150. On 28th January, 1877, the structure was completed consisting of the east & west wings and the Church was dedicated for public worship by Bishop G Andrews assisted by Rev J E Robinson, Rev James Shaw, Rev George Bowen and the Rev Dr Lovat Fraser, the Father of Sir Andrew Fraser.
