Our journey began when we purchased 43 acres in Amarillo, Texas at the beginning of 2022. It all started with a donkey who we found on Craigslist needing a new home. Jack the donkey couldn't be the only animal on the farm. We needed to find him a pasture pal and a few weeks later we rescued a Jenny donkey with her 1 week old baby from going to slaughter along with 6 Belgian Draft Horses! Come to find out the Jenny donkey was pregnant when we rescued her and she had a baby in January 2023. After learning about the horrible treatment of Belgian Draft Horses and why they end up at kill-pens my husband, Cory and I wanted to help rescue as many of these horses as we could. At the end of 2022, we started a 501c3 Non-Profit organization called the Big Hoof Foundation to save more of the "Big Hoof" horses. Since starting the farm and foundation we have rescued 158 equines from shipping to slaughter.
