The Barefoot Bushman
The Barefoot Bushman - ROB BREDL
In 1972 Joe Bredl, Rob’s father a passionate herpetologist, and Rob Bredl accepted an offer from Dr Robert Bustard of the Applied Ecology Unit to establish a crocodile farm at Edward River (Pormpuraaw). Crocodiles were near extinct at that time due to hunting. Rob thrived on the challenges. The many experiences searching for the few remaining crocodiles and their nests and capturing crocodiles for the farm created an extraordinary bushman.
The Bredls’ went on to established a zoo at Airlie Beach in Queensland. Here he entertained the public with his still unsurpassed crocodile handling skills. This drew media attention and a documentary, “Kissing Crocodiles” established him firmly as the Barefoot Bushman.
