Liaison extraordinaire

LIAISON EXTRAORDINAIRE - HARMONIUM AND PIANO
This extraordinary instrumentation unites two keyboard instruments, which are both highly expressive and yet completely different in character and playing style: The pianist expresses his personal musical feeling by means of the individual touch. The French-style harmonium player, on the other hand, shapes the notes directly by the wind pressure that his feet communicate to the sounding metal reeds via the bellows.
With the harmonium the piano is provided with an instrument which, due to its different registers and colours, unites many solo and melody instruments (especially wind instruments) and can even convey a convincing impression of an orchestral wind section. Thus only these two instruments can represent an entire orchestra.
Many well-known composers knew about the advantages and possibilities of this combination and used it equally for original works and arrangements.
