Founder Nailah Ellis' great-grandfather, Cyril Byron inspired the recipe for Ellis Isle Tea. As a head Chef of Marcus Garvey’s Black Star Line, he took his skills in the kitchen and turned them into his entrepreneurial dream, opening Byron Caterers, one of the largest Black family-owned catering companies in the Bronx in the early 1900s.

Before Cyril passed, his instructions were for the recipe “to be sold and not told.” With that promise in mind, it thrills us to bring this rich and delicious history to your palate.
