KATANKIN

Katankin is Melbourne indie-folk singer-songwriter and producer, Helen Catanchin. Born of Russian and Romanian migrant parents, and with a difficult, often harrowing family history, Katankin's music is nevertheless an ode and testament to love, faith, and ultimately, hope.
With her achingly pure and expressive voice, and poetic writing rich with imagery and searing honesty, she unflinchingly plumbs the darkest depths of the human condition - wading through despair, loathing, fear, rage, and revenge, and then soaring to its greatest, sun-drenched heights.

Katankin’s 2022 debut EP received a Music Victoria "Best Folk Work" nomination, and her 2024 debut album “Said the starling” earned a glowing 4-star review from Rhythms Magazine, widespread radio airplay and was a finalist for Best Contemporary Album of the Year at the 2025 Australian Folk Music Awards.
