Michael De Matty Composer
Choral composer in United States (Virginia) specializing in modern secular choral music for mixed chorus, male voice chorus, a cappella or with accompaniment such as piano, cello and other strings, and percussion. I set existing poetry texts as well as writing my own lyrics.
I studied choral composition in high school and college and won a prestigious choral composition competition at age 19. I took a 30 year break to pursue other interests including writing rock and pop songs, visual arts, and tattooing. I never stopped loving classical choral and instrumental music. Recently I realized how much I have missed it writing for choir and jumped back in with both feet. My passion has been reignited and is now stronger than ever.
Some of the elements I love exploring in my music are modal melodies and harmonies, borrowed chords, sonic textures, polyrhythms, poetry text setting, world music melody and harmony, polyphony.
Particularly open to commissions. I shine when challenged.
