Dr. K. S. Narayanacharya

Dr. K. S. Narayanacharya (1933–2021) was a scholar par excellence on Vedic studies, India’s Itihasas & Puranas. A prolific writer, he has authored over 180 books in Kannada & English, with many continuing to see reprints and enjoying popular readership. Popularly known as Ramayanacharya & Mahabharatacharya for his deeply nuanced understanding of the epics, he has delivered discourses, running into 1000s of hrs, across Karnataka & parts of India over a celebrated career. A staunch nationalist, he is uniquely recognized for his ability to carry the import of our ancient texts & traditions for a modern society, bridging the past & the present with a vision for the future.

For his contributions to our literary and spiritual traditions, he has been conferred with numerous awards including the Rajyotsava, Karnataka Sahitya Academy & Karnataka Kalashri awards. He has also been conferred titles such as Vedabhushana, Valmiki Hridayajna & Gamaka Ratnaakara.
