I believe that behind the infamously collapsed section in the lowest depths of the crypts, the first kings of Winter, the heroes of the first long night, still sit their thrones, both alive and dead at their post, their bodies turned to stone as a means of magical protection to fight the Others
And as a means of preserving their bodies for thousands of years, while they sit their dark thrones, awaiting the call to rise again harder and stronger
