When I was a kid I learned to play my father's button accordion a bit.
I grew up with the music of Dutch accordion legends like Schriebl & Hupperts and Addy Kleijngeld and German TV shows like Lustige Musikanten and Musikantenstadl
In my family there were a number of accordion players: my mother's father played the accordion very well, but as he died very young I have never heard him play.
Unfortunately I stopped playing as a kid and by the age of 49 I heard an uncle say that he regretted that he had never taken accordion lessons. I realized that I had to take action to prevent that, so I found an accordion teacher and started to take lessons. Although reading sheet music turned out not to be my favorite hobby, probably thanks to my ability to play by ear and the patience of my teacher I've learned to play a repertoire from old Dutch songs to German, Czech and Slovenian folk music.
