Mangaboy is an abbreviation for "Mangawhai boy". Mangawai is a small town on the east coast of New Zealand's north island. My grandparents built a bach (weekend cottage or house at the beach) there in the 1950's and eventually moved there permanently. My whole childhood is filled with pleasant memories of staying there with my grandparents during holidays. I would spend many hours playing in my sandpit, exploring in the bush, paddling my canoe with my little dog, catching fish and swimming and so on... My channel name, Mangaboy09 is an acknowledgement of those happy days, an expression of gratitude and a way of honouring the memory of my grandparents, Duncan and Una MacFarlane, who provided that safe place for me during my boyhood.
