Never Forgotten Fort Ord
In 1994 On September 30th, Fort Ord was finally closed. Most of the land was returned to the State of California for further public use and became the home of CSUMB. The remainder was given to University of California, Santa Cruz to be developed into the "UC MBEST" (Monterey Bay Education, Science and Technology)
While much of the old military buildings and infrastructure remain abandoned, many structures have been torn down
for anticipated urban development.
