Tankiso Mamabolo

Tankiso Mamabolo is a South African singer, songwriter, actor and award winning playwright. After graduating
from the UCT drama department in 2015, She co-wrote and performed in the award winning play The Fall
which toured Europe, Britain and The United States as well as other countries, winning awards at the
Edinburgh Theatre Festival as well as gaining a mention on the New York Times critics choice list.
Tankiso has worked in musical theatre productions such as Marc Lottering’s Aunty Merle The Musical
which gained her Naledi and Fleur Du Cup Theatre award nominations for best supporting actress in a
musical.

Her first album, Freedom Hurts Sometimes was released in 2020 and her second album THAPO will be available on the 18th of August. Tankiso’s work is centred in her blackness and womanhood . She reclaims this narrative masterfully with
a deft and independent voice, dealing with a range of themes including loss, love, oppression, rebellion
and existentialism.
