East Coast LAB - Hikurangi Subduction Zone M9

Eastern and lower Te-Ika-a-Māui/North Island is on the front line of the Hikurangi Subduction Zone, Aotearoa/New Zealand’s largest and most active fault! This makes it a natural laboratory for both physical and social science researchers working to understand the risk posed by the Hikurangi Subduction Zone.

East Coast LAB – Hikurangi Subduction Zone Magnitude 9 is a community-focused project, based in Te Matau-a-Māui/Hawkes Bay, that brokers the connection between research, emergency management, iwi, hapū and the wider community to ensure a well-coordinated, equitable, and research-based approach to building resilience.
