Tamil rural street plays.
Terukoothu is a Tamil street theater form practiced in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu and the Tamil-speaking parts of Sri Lanka. Street art is a form of entertainment, a ritual and a medium that conveys social status. Street furniture has various themes. One theme is from the Tamil language versions of the Hindu epic Mahabharata, centered on the character Dravupati. In modern times, the terms street and street are often used interchangeably. Historically, however, the two terms distinguished between two different types of performance: Streetkutu refers to performances of the type that take place in a procession, while Kattakkutu refers to narrative performances that take place at night, in a fixed location.
