Harris County Flood Control District
The Harris County Flood Control District, established by the Texas Legislature in 1937, is dedicated to reducing the risk of flooding for the more than 4.9 million residents of Harris County, Texas. Our mission is to plan, implement, and maintain flood risk reduction projects guided by community and natural values.
We manage an extensive network of over 2,500 linear miles of channels—equivalent to the distance from Los Angeles to New York—and oversee hundreds of active capital projects designed to mitigate flooding and protect homes, businesses, and infrastructure across the region.
