Harry Happel

Pianist Harry Happel (1949) is 100% self-taught. He started playing the piano as a child, but till today he never learned to read or write notes. The only way to document his musical ideas is to record them, and this recordings can now be heard on Spotify. Harry is known as a mainstream swinging pianist in the style of Oscar Peterson and Monty Alexander.. Harry's musical style is characterized by humor and sometimes he likes to give a musical wink to well-known classical themes.

From 1968 Harry played in trios and bands in various formations and in 1976 he founded his own trio “inTRIOduction”. With this trio he recorded 4 (vinyl) albums in the 70s and 80s including a live recording at the North Sea Jazz Festival. In the 90s Harry performed in Japan and Singapore and in the past 20 years he record some albums and played in various settings, also regularly with his son Sven on bass.
