THE LORD OF MIRACLES

The Lord of Miracle is a religious painting of Jesus Christ crucified that is revered by many in Lima, Peru. The painting was created by an enslaved Angolan in the 17th century and was originally located in a makeshift temple in the Pachacamilla neighborhood. After a devastating earthquake in 1655, the temple was destroyed but the wall on which the painting was located remained intact, which was considered a miracle by many. The painting has since been housed in the Santuario de las Nazarenas in Lima and is the focus of an annual procession in October.
