Kahwá:tsire Indigenous-Led Child & Family Programs
Our program, Kahwá:tsire provides Indigenous languages and cultural teachings with stories, songs, crafts, games, special guests, and more! We provide families with a friendly, safe environment that nurtures and strengthens awareness as well as promotes and celebrates Indigenous language and cultures.
The Kanyen'kéha (Mohawk) word that we have chosen to represent ourselves, Kahwá:tsire, means family. Traditionally Indigenous children would be collectively raised by the extended family, and it is this aspect where we draw our inspiration and approach to learning. Think of the spaces which our programming and workers occupy as a house with aunties and cousins to play with and learn from. First lesson are always in the home, and we feel that this should be emulated.
