One of my favorite fan questions was: “How do you go from singing plain to sounding like you’ve got an accent? And how did you rhyme ‘point’ with ‘restaurant’?” The answer goes back to my roots. I was born in Tennessee, bounced between there and Georgia until I was nine, then moved out to Arizona where I still live. The biggest influence on me was my Mawmaw from South Carolina. She grew up around Gullah Geechee voices, and I was mesmerized by how she spoke. She’d say “restaurant” in a way that rhymed with “point,” and slipping that into a song was my way of keeping her close.
I’ve been singing my whole life. Country is home, but I’ve always loved the blues and the grit of rock too. Thanks to Luna Records, these songs finally came to life. I just hope they feel like a conversation with an old friend — honest, soulful, and something that lingers after the music fades.
