was an American jazz musician known for his virtuosity on the organ, as well as his skills on the trumpet, saxophone, and as a vocalist. A true musical prodigy, he began playing the organ at age four and was performing alongside jazz legends by his teenage years. Over his career, Joey released more than 30 albums as a leader and collaborated with giants such as Miles Davis, John McLaughlin, and Ray Charles. His work revitalized the role of the Hammond B-3 organ in jazz, bringing a fresh and soulful energy to the instrument. Joey was a five-time Grammy Award nominee and won numerous other accolades, including the DownBeat Critics Poll for Best Jazz Organist multiple times. His dynamic performances, inventive compositions, and deep understanding of jazz history made him a beloved figure in the music world. Joey's legacy continues to inspire musicians and fans alike, cementing his place as one of the most influential jazz organists of his time.
