Carl Sommer, president of Reliable EDM, has extensive experience in machining and tool and die making. He started working in a machine shop in 1949 in Brooklyn, N.Y. He became a tool and die maker, machinist, foreman, tool designer, and operations manager for one of the largest tool, die, and stamping shops in Houston. He started Reliable EDM with his two sons, Steve and Phil, in 1986.
Phil Sommer has a degree in business administration and heads the EDM operation. Steve Sommer, vice president, has worked as a machinist and tool and die maker, and has a mechanical engineering degree. He has a thorough knowledge of computer programming for wire, ram, and small hole EDM. Carl and Steve have written the highly acclaimed book, Complete EDM Handbook.
