NARM Training Institute

The NeuroAffective Relational Model® (NARM®) is a framework designed to address complex trauma—including attachment, relational, developmental, and systemic trauma. Developed by Laurence Heller, PhD, NARM aims to rehumanize psychotherapy, de-pathologize mental health, and rebalance the power dynamic between clients and helping professionals.

NARM shifts the focus from WHAT happened to HOW people adapted to survive what happened—understanding these early adaptations continue to shape the present. These survival strategies often lead to disconnection in identity, emotions, physiology, behavior, and relationships. Rather than pathologizing these patterns, NARM brings curiosity and compassion to them, supporting reconnection with each person’s inherent capacity for growth and healing. This present-focused approach supports clients in their own process while also relieving helping professionals of the pressure to “fix”—fostering a more sustainable and collaborative path toward healing.
