LawnConcertTV

EDUCATIONAL USE: This is an archive of cellphone videos of the TV screens during MidFlorida Amphitheater concerts in Tampa, Florida. These videos are what the "Lawnies," people who watch the concert from the lawn (the seating furthest from the stage), saw on the big screens. While what's happening on the stage is the predominant focus of the concert experience, what's shown on the accompanying screens doesn't typically receive scholarly attention. This archive provides the raw material for those analyses. Humanities and media scholars may use these videos to study the mediation of concerts from different genres to compare/contrast patterns in their production and assess their tropes, aesthetics, forms, timing, etc. Unlike films which are heavily and carefully edited for repeated viewing, these concert screen videos defy editing and are one-use only remaining as only memories. With this new archive, it is hoped that scholars give this transient art form the critical gaze it deserves.
