Kola Records was found in 1990 as a sole proprietor producing Rui Pina. The traditional folk music from Cape Verde Islands inspired the name of the label.
Kola Records went on to become a successful label throughout the 1990s, responsible for producing popular artists such as Tatiana, Felisberto Fernandes aka F-Xpress, Justin, Adelino Rodrigues and Sandro. Towards the end of the decade Kola Records produced fewer artists and Rui Pina began to focus more on his own music career.
