History of the Gorkha Warriors
Gorkha warriors are world-famous for their bravery, discipline, and fearless spirit. Their history is linked to the Gorkha region of Nepal, from which the name “Gorkha” originated.
2. Anglo-Gorkha War (1814–1816)
A fierce war took place between the British East India Company and the Gorkha army.
Although the Gorkhas were eventually defeated, the British were so impressed by their courage that they began recruiting Gorkha soldiers into their own army. This marked the beginning of the Gurkha Regiments.
