A Year of Deer

Capturing the day-to-day wildlife activity in an area of forest unfrequented by humans and dogs.
It started with one camera being moved around until it became obvious that one was not enough and some locations, where multiple trails crossed, were hotspots for deer, badgers and foxes.
Ten different cameras have been tested, those found wanting have been relegated to the role of scout. They don't provide high quality footage but they can still be useful in identifying more hotspots.
The camera of choice for this project is the NatureSpy Ursus with the Browning Spec Ops Elite HP5 taking an honorary place on the team (it's a great camera but twice the price of the Ursus).
For 2026 the plan is to place the good cameras in the hotspots for the whole year in order to get a better sense of seasonal activity in the area.
Most of the footage is of roe deer but sometimes muntjac and red deer turn up to steal the show. There's always something unexpected.
