*Note on name change*
Mariee has chosen to drop the X in her given middle name to decolonize the word. Once learning about the word's true origins and history, of it being a colonizer's term (derived from an insulting phrase), and with the type of de-colonial work Mariee is committed to in her life, art and music, she knew she must change her name in some way.

HISTORY:
"Sioux" is a french colonial term derived from an Ojibwe phrase "Nadoweisiw-eg". The name "Sioux" did not originate from the Lakota, Dakota, or Nakota peoples themselves, who are now often called the Sioux tribe. The Ojibwe word "Nadoweisiw-eg", means "little or lesser snakes/enemies". French fur traders shortened this term to "Sioux". "Sioux," in its original Ojibwe context, carried the implication of enemy, and thus is an inappropriate blanket term for these multiple bands of indigenous peoples.
