* History of snooker *
*Towards the end of the 19th century, billiards, which dates back to the 15th century, was popular among British officers stationed in India.
*According to the most commonly accepted story, in 1875 Colonel Francis Fitzgerald Neville Chamberlain – namesake of the future Prime Minister – was at the origin of the invention of the game of snooker, while he was stationed in India, in Jabalpur:
he suggested to the officers' mess that colored balls be added to traditional billiards, which included 15 red balls and one black.
*Firstly, the yellow, green and pink marbles were added; brown and blue marbles appeared around 1880.
