Mornington Peninsula Astronomical Society

Historical proceedings of the Mornington Peninsula Astronomical Society (MPAS), originally formed in July 1969 as the Astronomical Society of Frankston (ASF), inspired by the Apollo lunar landing.

The Society is not-for-profit, run entirely by volunteers and has hundreds of members. MPAS is extremely active in educational public, school and other community outreach in astronomy and all other sciences.

It is based in south eastern Victoria, Australia, at Mount Martha on the picturesque eastern side of Port Phillip Bay. Its registered observatory facilities (Mount Martha Observatory) are situated within a large State reserve known as The Briars Historic Park where dark skies are enjoyed that are not unreasonably distant from Melbourne.
