Bonsai

Bonsai (盆栽, bonsai,) is a method of artistic dwarf tree cultivation introduced by the Japanese. Bonsai (Japanese: 盆栽, lit. tree.) or the Chinese tradition of bonsai, originated in Beijing and similar practices exist in other cultures, including the miniature living landscapes of Hong Kong, Vietnam. The Japanese tradition is over a thousand years old.

"Bonsai" refers to small, container-grown trees in accordance with Japanese tradition and principles.

The primary goals of bonsai are to provide contemplation for the viewer and to delight the grower's effort and skill. Unlike other forms of plant cultivation, bonsai practice focuses instead on the long-term cultivation and shaping of one or more small trees growing in a container.

Bonsai uses cultivation techniques such as pruning, root reduction, potting, grafting, and grafting to produce miniature trees that mimic the shape and style of full-sized trees.
