Monterey Museum of Art
The Monterey Museum of Art (MMA) cultivates curiosity in the visual arts and engages the community with the diversity of California art - past, present, and future. As the only nationally accredited art museum between San Jose and Santa Barbara, MMA exhibits paintings, sculpture, and photography from its collection which includes works by Judy Chicago, Ansel Adams, and Armin Hansen. With new exhibits monthly, the Museum highlights contemporary as well as classic California art often with the addition of works on loan from the Whitney, Metropolitan Museum of Art and SFMOMA among others. A commitment to representing and supporting contemporary local artists is expressed in the Currents+FLUX gallery space where pieces are available for purchase. Additionally, the museum serves over 3,000 children annually with hands-on art education school programs and free transportation from anywhere in Monterey County.
