AIRTSC (TRI Assam)
INTRODUCTION
The Assam Institute of Research for Tribals and Scheduled Castes, was established during the year 1963 with head quarter at Shillong for the undivided Assam (consisting of Assam, Meghalaya and Mizoram) with six nos of District Research Officers posted at Guwahati, Dibrugarh, Diphu, Aizwal, Shillong and Tura, under the administrative control of Tribal Area Development Department of Assam. In 1990, the Institute was renamed as Assam Institute of Research for Tribals and Scheduled Castes .It is situated in Jawaharnagar, Guwahati-22
The main functions of the Institute are Research, Evaluation, Training and Planning. There are some other schemes like publication of books, journal, holding of seminars on problems of ST/SC, participation in state level and national level exhibitions, data bank on SC/ST, grants-in-aid to authors for publication of books written on SC/ST, , advertisement and publicity and documentation of tribal life and culture through audio-visual means.
