University of Montevallo

Founded in 1896, the University of Montevallo is Alabama’s only public liberal arts university, offering the charm of a private school with the value of a state-supported institution. Located 35 miles south of Birmingham, our historic campus was designed by the architects of Central Park and the Biltmore House grounds, earning recognition from Southern Living as one of the “South’s Most Beautiful Colleges.”

Montevallo provides a nationally acclaimed education with an average class size of 16, offering 30+ degree programs and 70 majors and concentrations. Students benefit from hands-on research with full-time faculty mentors, preparing them for impactful careers.

Our vibrant campus life includes 23 NCAA Division II teams, plus cheerleading, dance, fishing and esports. A cherished tradition, College Night—America’s oldest homecoming event of its kind—has been honored by the Library of Congress and Jeopardy! twice.
