Pashto classical songs

Obaidullah Jan Kandahari - عبیدالله جان کندهاری

He was a renowned Afghan singer, born on May 5, 1951, in Kandahar, Afghanistan. He was a prominent figure in Pashto music, particularly known for his contributions to classical music and ghazals. His style brought a unique blend of traditional Pashto sounds with a more modern approach, making him a beloved artist, especially among Pashtuns in southern Afghanistan and Quetta, Pakistan.

Obaidullah Jan's journey into music began at an early age. He was self-taught of Pashto music. He worked closely with poets, including Syed Abdul Khaliq, who wrote many of the lyrics for his songs. His first song became popular in the 1970s.

Tragically, Obaidullah Jan's life was cut short when he was martyred on February 25, 1983, in Spin Boldak, Kandahar Province. Despite his early death at the age of 32, his music continues to inspire Pashto music lovers today. His recordings remain a testament to his influence on Afghan music.
