21st Century Expeditionist

A channel dedicated to the exploration of La Florida's wildernesses and histories past. Florida was named 'La Florida" by the Spaniard Juan Ponce de Leon when he first reached Florida's coast Easter 1513. Here on these shores Spaniard Pánfilo de Narvaez made contact with the native populations of present day Tampa Bay area in 1527. In May 1562 the French Huguenot, navigator and explorer Jean Ribault discovered the St. Johns, which he named the Riviera de Mai (May River). They were massacred and others were drowned at sea by a vicious hurricane. Most importantly, Florida is a land filled with the remnants of a forgotten people who died from disease, the Timucua, Calusa, Potano, Pensacola, Apalachicola, Apalachee, Tequesta, Ocale, Tocobaga. etc..
