20th Century Railfan
Most of these videos were taken between 1996 and the early 2000s around the Buffalo, NY area. I lugged around one of those monstrous VHS camcorders back then. Although the quality is not what we've come to expect nowadays, the content is worthwhile. Some videos are very short but it is what I have...and I have LOTS of them!
Conrail used to rule the rails in these parts. Railfanning was exciting and colorful then as a wide variety of visiting engines would roll through the area, as you will see.
On June 1, 1999, CSX took over and Conrail joined the ghosts of railroads past. At first, nothing seemed to change. Then it was exciting to see the first CSX engines appear, usually behind the lead Conrail engine. Then CSX took the lead position until one day all of the Conrail engines were gone. Now railfanning around here is duller, but I still enjoy it.
