The Lewis & Harris Piping Society

The Lewis and Harris Piping Society was formed in 1977, our main objective is “to promote in the interest of social welfare the encouragement of piping in all its aspects with particular emphasis in the fields of tuition, competition and recital”.
For many years after its inception the Society has been able to organise regular recitals, bringing such experts as the late PM Angus Macdonald, PM Alasdair Gillies and Gordon Duncan to name but a few, to demonstrate their virtuoso skills.
For the past few years that experience has been more or less confined to once a year when the Donald Macleod Memorial Competition is held in Stornoway. Allowing piping enthusiasts to gather to listen to the noble instrument played live by expert fingers.
