The Loretta Young Show
Loretta Young was an extremely popular Hollywood film star in 1953. She had begun as a child actress in silent movies, appeared in almost 100 films before she was given the best actress Academy Award for her starring role in The Farmer's Daughter in 1948. But television was taking the nation by storm in the 1950s and the popular Hollywood film actress decided to make a risky career move and explore the exciting new entertainment medium that brought 'the movies' right into American living rooms.
On September 20th, 1953, the beautiful "movie star" entered the nations' living rooms for the very first time. On that Sunday night, on the NBC Television Network, at ten PM Eastern, Loretta Young came through her living room door dressed like the star that she was... and made television history. It didn't take long for Miss Young to became known as the "first lady" of television, earning three Emmys - and numerous other awards - in the eight seasons she reigned as queen of the ratings.
