Join us for this month's Little Lecture at 2:00pm this Sunday, August 23, to learn about a genre of music not often associated with West Virginia or Appalachia: black metal.
Aaron Carey, a classical guitarist and music lecturer at Bethany College for over a decade, introduces us to this subgenre and walks us through "The Role of Ancestry, Heritage, and Nature in Appalachian Black Metal Music." Not only does Carey teach multiple styles of traditional guitar and banjo, he has been involved in metal bands in West Virginia since the age of 15, including his longtime project Nechochwen, which means "walks alone" in the Lenape Native American language.
