ILS Combined Hydrotreater and CCR Reformer with Oxychlorination Regen Option

This modular, pilot-scale catlyst R&D testing unit allows for three fixed-bed reactors to be operated to be operated in a number of different flexible configurations. The first reactor is a trickle-flow reactor for hydrotreating naptha to heavy feedstocks. This reactor removes heteroatoms like sulfur or nitrogen via hydrodesulfurization (HDS) or hydrodenitrogenation (HDN). The reactor is designed for ideal plug-flow and catalyst wetting to insure deep conversion levels over a broad LHSV range.

The other two reactors are fixed-bed, CCR continuous catalytic reforming reactors. Two reactors are present allowing one to be operated in REGEN-Regeneration mode, while the other is used for reforming. These reactors contain solid acid supported noble metal catalysts used for converting the low-octane feedstock containing mostly linear alkanes to a high-alkane reformate containing a mix of branched isomers and cyclic napthenes which are hydrogenated to a BTX aromatic mix.

The feedstock of the hydrotreater can be directed directly to a product tank or to one or both of the CCR reactors. The CCR reactors have the ability to perform online oxychlorination to insure optimal catalyst performance and regenerate the catalyst at regular intervals. Inclusion of an in-line caustic stripper prevents the emmission of corrosive HCL to the clients ventilation system. ISO-RON testing can be performed using other vesions of this unit if desired by clients where the catalyst temperature is slowly increased as a function of online measurements to insure a constant RON-Research Octane Number is obtained, providing a better basis for catalyst testing and comparison with full-scale unit performance.

Seamless integration of an online GC-Gas Chromatograph in combination with the Ritter Volumetric gas-flow measurement and online liquid-sampling insure that the client can attain tight mass balances.

The unit is fully automated using an ABB PCS.
