READ THIS BEFORE WATCHING this is a class so there are some mistakes. If you are not our student, do what your teacher says not what you see here. Omotesenke-ryu [表千家流] tea class August 6, 2022. For our students we are videoing practice so they can have additional tea experience.
We were asked to do some videos on the shitekichaire [四滴茶入]. This video is one of the results. The suiteki chaire [水滴茶入] was originally of karamono [唐物] origins so it can be used for koicha [濃茶] when encased in a shifuku [仕覆]. So that is how we are using it in this practice. The others are only used for usucha [薄茶].
The important points are in which direction the caddy is pointed meaning the spout end. To start it should point towards the kama [釜] which means the direction will change dependent on the kama’s [釜] location. When located next to other utensils it should point towards them. When turning, the spout always turns towards you. When scooping tea, the spout should point towards you. During haiken [拝見] the guests turn the spout to point in the direction of travel when in motion.
