As I’m waiting with bated breath for TipTop Audio’s copies of the Buchla 258 and 281, I’ve been exploring how to use oscillators and slew generators in a more Buchla-sequence way.
This patch uses Pittsburgh Modular’s Lifeforms Double Helix, itself based on Buchla’s design, as the basis for pinging resonant filters. The magic is PWM - filters are pinged on both rise and fall for a square wave, and when you modulate the width, you get a cool phasing effect.
The real magic is Mutable Instruments Sheep into Clouds. Modulating the pitch offset with intention turns those luscious wavetables into glorious pads reaching to the heavens with arms outstretched.
The result is a beautiful, cinematic patch full of airy chords and glitter.
